Spring has arrived in Mountain View, Arkansas once again and the weather is simply gorgeous. This is my favorite time of the year as fishing, hiking, biking and other outdoor activities fit the weather perfectly. The musicians are back on the square and the music theaters are all open along with the Ozark Folk Center, Blanchard Caverns, and Loco Ropes. But my favorite, the Music Box with its fabulous ice cream treats and Chief’s Kettle Corn are in full swing so I can sit back and enjoy the music with some treats. The White River in Mountain View Arkansas offers world class trout fishing. The river’s width ranges from 75 to 250 yards across with it’s trout water stretching for 90 miles. It has shallow riffles, deep fast runs and deep holes. The bottom can be moss and grass covered, clean grave, or solid rock with many ledges and fractures to hide big trout. The White River fishes like a big river. You can successfully employ many different tactics to catch fish.
There is access to shore line fishing, public boat ramps and a number of guide services available to get you on the river and in the right spot. The picture shows our recent successful catch (6-30-2014). All four of us brought home our limit as well as many more caught and released. During our trip we saw four Bald Eagles and a number of Blue Herring. We were even lucky enough to spot a Bald Eagle’s nest. So if you trout fish don’t miss the opportunity to fish the White River. Who knows, you may be the next world record holder for the largest German Brown Trout.
Access to the trout on the White River is just six miles from Ozark Country Inn. Spend the evenings with us and spend the day on the river. We can help make fishing arrangements for guide services or offer advice on places to fish if you desire to venture out on your own.
Come experience an “Old Fashion July 4th”in Mountain View, Arkansas this year. The festivities kick off Thursday night July 3rd with a street dance in Centennial Bank’s parking lot just off the square.
And then continues all day July 4th starting with a old time patriotic parade and opening ceremony down Main Street on the square at 9:00 am. You will see floats, antique cars, music and more. Music will be played in front of the Court House at the gazebo all day featuring Pam Setser and Brad Apple. Friday afternoon everyone is invited to join in the old time games on the lawn of the Court House. Games will include events such as sack races, watermelon spitting contest and others. And for the more competitive folks, we will be having a horse shoe trowing tournament behind the Backstreet Theater. But most important, don’t forget to grab yourself a free piece of watermelon. The July 4th celebration will then move over to the fairgrounds for a pre-firework party and dance featuring Rodger Gardner and friends. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served and then the fireworks will take off at dusk around 8:30 to 9:00 pm.
But it’s not over yet! Saturday July 5th the BBQ teams will set up for a BBQ cook-off as all the shop owners will present a special sidewalk sale. Now I don’t know if there will be any watermelon left over on Saturday but I do know there will be plenty of ice cream and kettle corn to be purchased at the music box as you listen to all the musicians on the picking park throughout the festival.
Don’t forget to make your reservations early for this Fourth of July Festival at the Ozark Country Inn 1-800-379-8699. There will also be a special Gospel show at the Backstreet Theater Saturday 7:00 pm
